Quite ordinary ryokan. Not many redeeming features.
Hard to find.

We were the only ones there
It was kind of want-to-be traditional, but still ok

It is hotel in traditional style. Here is very pleasant environment. Good location - about 15-20 minutes by walk from Kyoto Station and from Gion. We have only good impressions from this hotel. The owner are very good. All issues were resolved quickly. I think we will come back here if we went to Kyoto again.

We stayed there as part of our honeymoon travelling around Japan for 3 weeks. It was clean, comfortable & our room was a traditional Japanese ryokan style, which we liked. Futon beds were really comfy & we had a great sleep the 3 nights we were there. The kitchen is basic but enabled us to save more money by buying stuff & cooking our own meals. The owners cleaned the place daily & there's a lovely wee river outside, which is lit up by lamps just up from the guesthouse. There's a bath with a shower/wet room.
It took us ages to find it & we decided on a taxi as locals didn't even know where it was & we walked for hours after being sent the wrong way 3 times. The kitchen can get a wee bit grubby but living in a place with several rooms, it's to be expected in a flat-mate kinda setting. There's no cooker or microwave which woulda been handy. The internet access on the computer there did not work at all as it kept freezing, that is, when you could get on it as the Australians kept hogging the computer access!

I was actually very pleased with my experience at this guesthouse and am surprised at previous negative reviews. Riverside Takase helped to make our time in Kyoto convenient, comfortable, and affordable. The value is absolutely unbeatable - you get a large, clean room all laid out in the traditional way a mere ~15 minutes walk from the train station. Having easy access to the station was very important as we were there every day to take buses/trains/subway to various sights. It's also about a 15 minute walk to the heart of downtown/Gion. The owner (I checked in with the female owner) was polite and left a note for us letting us know when she'd be back to check us in. We had no issues with cleanliness at all.
The owners are not usually at the guesthouse, so this place is suited for independent travellers who are ok with sharing bathrooms. Also, there is one shower so if the place is full, there might be a brief wait but as there are only a few rooms, it wasn't really an issue.
